Welcome to the website of Chippewa Lodge 29.
From hundreds of names sent in by Scouts around the Detroit Metropolitan Area, the name Great Lakes Council was chosen as the name of the new council created from the recently merged Clinton Valley and Detroit Area Councils.
"I was pulling for Red Wings Council," remarked Chippewa Lodge member and hockey fan Justin Coluzzi. Section Chief Brad Lichota had his own favorite: "Krispy Kreme Council, man! I'm ok with corporate sponsorships if they come with donuts at board meetings."
Andrew Curtiss, Migisi Opawgan Lodge Chief, pointed in a more pop culture direction. "I think it should have been the Don Draper Council." This would apparently be named after fictional 1960s advertising mogul Don Draper. Several area mothers have been reported to call Mr. Draper "dreamy" awkwardly in front of their sons, who are just glad their mothers are "finally out of that George Clooney phase."
Great Lakes Council narrowly beat out other generic Michigan names such as "Motor City Council," "The Other Gerald Ford Council," "Mackinaw Island Fudge Council," and "Jeff Daniels Council."

Your lodge and chapter officers gathered the weekend of August 21 at Camp Agawam to participate in Lodge Leadership Development. While there, they planned the next year of Chippewa Lodge and learned techniques to better guide their brothers.
The Brownsea Island Experience is recruiting Youth Staff members for the 2010 National Scout Jamboree to portray the young men that accompanied General Baden-Powell on the very first experimental Scout campout to England's Brownsea Island in 1907.
If you are a scout that will be between 16 and 21 years old next summer, you should really check this out - download this promotional flyer for more information and contacts.
